Woman Apprehended After Beheading Her 11-Month-Old Baby

A commotion broke out in the Yonen town, Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State on Tuesday after a lady named Blessing Eno beheaded her 11-month-old child, claiming to be led by a “spirit.”

The mother of two, who may be mentally ill, used a machete to hack off the baby’s head while claiming that the child was disturbing her and that a spirit had told her to kill him.

According to reports, her eight-year-old son sounded an alarm that brought nearby residents to the scene.

An enraged crowd was about to kill her at the station when the police responded quickly and brought her into protective custody.

The Yakurr LGA Paramount Ruler, HRM Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng, made a calm-call while expressing surprise at the tragic incident. He stated that he immediately called an emergency meeting with his subjects to guarantee that there were no more killings.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident and said that it was a homicide case that had been turned over to the State CID’s Homicide Department for further investigation.

James Ibor, a child rights activist and the chief legal officer of the Basic Right Council Initiative (BRCI), claimed that there was no doubt about the woman’s mental instability.
