Motherhood: Patience In Parenting 7

Hello Great Mothers!

Patience is evident in God’s long-suffering, slow-to-anger attitude toward us.
Nehemiah 9:17-18 says “You are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them [the Israelites], even when they cast for themselves an image of a calf and said, ‘This is your god.’

This teaches us that patience is a compassionate, forgiving attitude toward someone, even in the face of outright disobedience or rebellion.

The Bible says: “we all fall in different ways.” This scripture depicts the imperfect nature of man. Therefore, our relationships with our spouses and children require patience in the same way that an engine requires oil – without it, friction will produce an explosion. So also, without patience, family life becomes terrible.

Patience is an essential ability/ attitude for life. All mothers need to add this important virtue to their parenting skills. This is because it produces great benefits in the life of our children.

Let’s have a look at some of the benefits of patience in parenting:

1)Positive Behavior Modeling
Children learn by emulating. When they see you doing something, they imitate you. Through this, they learn how to move around in the world. When you demonstrate patience, your child will learn that this is the correct way to behave. On the other hand, if you are constantly losing your temper, whether at your child or in response to minor irritants, your child will learn to mimic that behavior. As Mothers, we must be positive role models to our children. Through our attitude, we can teach our children how to respond to feelings of irritation. This will help them to manage their emotions healthily.

2)Aids in the Prevention of Emotional exhaustion
Caring for a child can be extremely taxing. As rewarding as having a positive relationship with your children can be, it can also be exhausting if you allow your frustrations to get to you. A child will occasionally do something that irritates her. When you’re caring for a child, your patience will be put to the test regularly, but it’s worth it to fight the need to become upset at every little thing. If you allow everything to make you furious, you will simply not be able to do what you desire since being angry is quite draining. You must learn to let go.

Being patient when nurturing kids is not easy, but it’s worth the effort. I will continue this discussion on the importance of patience in my next article.
