No One Can Force Me to Retire Or Stop Playing – Falcons Captain

Onome Ebi, the captain of the Super Falcons, has stated that no one can force her to retire as she will retire when the time comes.

The statement from the former Bayelsa Queens, Omidiran Babes, and FC Minsk defender comes after social media calls for the 40-year-old to retire from professional football.

She recently signed as a free agent with Naija Ratel of the Nigeria Women’s Football League.

Ebi was a member of the Super Falcons squad that competed in this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, marking her sixth World Cup appearance after making her debut in 2003.

“When I’m done I would make that decision myself, nobody is going to talk me into retirement or make me stop playing,” Ebi said on Brila FM on Thursday morning, October 19.

“It’s the game I love, it’s the game I enjoy so when I’m done, when I’m satisfied that I can no longer play I will call it a day, nobody can make me retire when I’m not ready.”

Ebi has four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles, having won them in 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018.
