Man Stages One-Man Protest In Akwa Ibom Over Country’s Hardship

David Ubaha, 41, organised a one-man protest against Nigeria’s dire economic circumstances on Monday, February 19, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The father of two claimed that most people are no longer able to handle the situation and that it has become intolerable. He tucked a placard with a list of issues and solutions in the front and back of his shirt.

Nigeria’s difficulties, according to Ubaha, a native of the state’s Itu Local Government Area, include the depreciation of the naira, extreme hardship, raging insecurity, unanticipated subsidy elimination, and uncontrollable inflation.

The solution on the placard reads; “Start local production, diversify the economy, invest in mechanical farming, revamp dying industries, stop unnecessary borrowing, equip hospitals, and stop seeking medical attention abroad, among others.”

Speaking in Uyo with a punch, Ubaha stated he wasn’t starting the demonstration to make a show of himself and added that the state of the nation always makes him uncomfortable.

“The idea on how to fix this country does not reside with our readers alone; it resides with the people, but the saddest episode is that when these ideas are being proffered by the people, the leaders will not take them into cognisant,” he said.

“On the other hand, the people do not know how to compel the leaders to fix the country for the common good of everybody and the posterity.

“So, I, David Ubaha, a true son of Ibiobio, have sworn to myself that I will never keep quiet and watch this country go down the drain.”

“The situation has affected me negatively. The cost of fuel and food in the market has gone up. I’m not just blowing my trumpet alone, but looking at what the society is passing through, it pricks my mind.”

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
