Choosing When To Retire Is “Not An Easy Decision” – Andy Murray

Deciding when to retire is a very personal decision that depends on a number of factors, including your financial strategy and your emotional state of mind. Your unique situation will play a major role in determining the when, why, and mode of retirement you choose.

Andy Murray has said that he is still unclear about his precise summer tennis retirement date.

The 36-year-old Murray stated last month that he “did not plan on playing much past this summer,” and he gave an explanation for his inability to give a more precise date for his retirement from tennis in an interview with The Times.

“I really only feel like I have a chance to win a medal,” he stated, adding that he would be thrilled to play in another Olympics.

“I’m also very conscious that because of how amazing my experiences at the Olympics have been, I would want to be there by right and not just take one of the other guys’ spots, because it is a brilliant opportunity.

“We have top doubles players (Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski are ranked inside the world’s top 10) and also Jack (Draper), Cam (Norrie), and Evo (Dan Evans) in singles as well.”

Murray, a three-time grand slam champion who spent 41 weeks at the top of the men’s singles rankings during the same era as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer, may concentrate on the doubles matches at the Paris Olympics, which will take place on clay, his least favorite surface.

He said, “When I played with Joe, I had the conversation beforehand with him that my feeling was there was a greater chance of me winning a medal in doubles than singles.” He and Salisbury advanced to the Tokyo 2020 quarterfinals.

Murray claimed he was “bored” with being asked when he will retire, stating that “the issue had been asked every week since Wimbledon of last year. It’s something that I’ve had to talk about and entertain.

“Obviously at some stage, the end will come. It’s not an easy decision to know exactly when that will be or when it should be.”

Anytime you choose to retire, the world will never forget all your achievements.

Gentle Reminder: Be careful how you use your authority and influence, be wise, and treat others with respect.
