A High Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, found a man, Ojo Ayegbusi guilty of raping a fifteen-year-old girl and sentenced him to life in prison on Wednesday.
Rape was the charge brought against the defendant, who committed the act at Ikole Ekiti on November 11, 2020.
The charge read; “The innocent survivor (victim) of the rape was coming from school when she was accosted by the defendant who lured her into his room and had carnal knowledge of her.
“She could not tell anybody of her nasty experience, but her father found out when the girl was rushed to hospital after she collapsed at home and blood was gushing out of her private parts.”
As a result, the man was taken into custody and given an arraignment.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Ekiti State, Julius Ajibare, said, “The offence of rape is contrary to Section 31(2) of the Child’s Rights Law, Cap.C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”
Ajibare, the Ekiti State prosecutor, presented three exhibits and invited five witnesses to bolster his case.
The defendant testified in defence of himself and called one witness, speaking through his attorney, E O. Sunmonu.
In the judgment, Justice John Adeyeye held that “the prosecution proved the offence of rape against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.”
As a result, the defendant was found guilty by the court and given a life sentence.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
