Court Bars Economic Hardship Protest In Ghana

A Ghanaian high court has prohibited organisations from organising demonstrations against the nation’s economic suffering.

The Ghanaian police requested that civil society organisations not hold rallies between July 31 and August 6.

The police informed the court that they would not be able to provide protection for protestors, and High Court Justice Abena Afia Serwaa upheld their request.

According to court records obtained by Modern Ghana News, the police have alerted us to the possibility that the next protest may jeopardise public order.

The police stated that they could not ensure the safety of demonstrators because part of their staff had been assigned to political events and election campaigns.

Mensah Thompson, a protest organiser, stated that individuals have the right to protest and that elections should not be used as an excuse to prevent it.

“Young people are poised to demonstrate with or without the approval of the authorities. A time comes when they will spontaneously jump on the streets and we will have a ‘Kenya’ on our hands.”

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
