Home Affairs Claims Miss SA; Chidinma Adetshina’s Mother Committed Identity Fraud
According to Home Affairs, there is preliminary information suggesting that the mother of Miss South Africa contestant; Chidinma Adetshina may have committed identity theft.
Home Affairs Minister; Leon Schreiber announced on Wednesday in a statement. This comes after Chidinma Adetshina’s identification was questioned by several South Africans due to her Nigerian surname.
It was discovered that Adetshina’s mother was thought to be from Mozambique, but her father was purportedly from Nigeria. Adetshina is 23 years old.
In a long statement, Schreiber claimed that as part of the purported scam performed by Adetshina’s mother, an innocent South African mother’s identity was taken. Home Affairs is currently looking into the nationality of Miss SA Chidinma Adetshina. He said that to find and prosecute any authorities connected to the purported fraudulent scheme, the agency has expanded the scope of its inquiry.
“The department is obtaining legal advice on the implications of the alleged fraudulent activity on Adetshina’s citizenship status. Upon the completion of the investigation, Home Affairs intends to press criminal,” he said.
He said that this is due to purported fraudulent acts that were carried out 23 years ago, underscoring the pressing requirement for the digital modernization of Home Affairs applications.
“The case also highlights the reason for the department’s blocking of certain duplicate IDs, and that the court-ordered unblocking of these documents must be handled with caution.
“Throughout this process, Home Affairs is guided by our commitment to both restoring and upholding the rule of the law as well as the rights of all parties,’’ Schreiber added.
She was not a SA ambassador, according to the Patriotic Alliance (PA), which has also opened an investigation into the situation.
