Asake Shares Reason Why He Likes Singing In Yoruba

The Afrobeats phenomenon Asake has reacted to fans who have criticized him for singing in Yoruba.

One of Asake’s fans asked him why he doesn’t write his songs in English during a Sunday live Instagram session.

Since his music is now being heard by a wider audience, some other admirers have made the argument that he ought to sing more frequently in English.

In response, Asake said;

“The thing is, I am more comfortable singing my songs in Yoruba. Not that I can not still sing it in English. There are some parts in which I use English but I think I am more comfortable with Yoruba,” he said.

The “Terminator” hitmaker further implied that Yoruba music enthusiasts should cease listening if they do not enjoy it.

Asake rose to prominence in 2020 with his hit song ‘Lady’. The singer joined YBNL, the record label owned by Olamide, in February 2022.

Music is the vernacular of the human soul.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
