INEC To Resume Nationwide Voter Registration February 2025

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will resume nationwide continuous voter registration (CVR) in the first quarter of 2025.

In a memo dated November 20, 2024, INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony instructed resident electoral commissioners to start preparing for the exercise.

The voter registration will start at the local government area (LGA) level before moving on to registration areas (RAs). The memo outlined the steps that must be taken to ensure readiness, such as evaluating the condition of INEC Voter Enrollment Devices (IVED), printers, and CVR forms and materials.

“The commission is considering commencing the exercise at Local Government Area (LGA) level and later devolving to Registration Area (RA) level,” the memo stated.

INEC also requested that its state offices identify and choose staff to serve as voter registration officials, as well as prepare information on uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), so that the Register of Uncollected PVCs could be displayed throughout the process.

The national CVR exercise has been discontinued since July 2022, ahead of the 2023 general election. However, voter registration drives have continued in states that hold off-cycle elections.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
