Stella Damasus Reveals Why Her Family’s Surname Was Changed From Ojukwu

Stella Damasus, a Nollywood actress, has explained why her family’s last name was changed from Ojukwu to Damasus.

The movie actor said that the modification was done during the civil war to prevent attacks in a recent interview with well-known media personality Ebuka Obi Uchendu.

She claims that people thought she and her family were related to the late Biafran war general, which is why she had to alter her name to her grandfather’s first name, “Damasus.”

“It was interesting that so many people didn’t even understand that your surname was not what it was. So many people were shocked at the revelation, are you as shocked as a lot of people were?”

“Damasus is my granddaughter’s first name. It’s a Greek name. My original surname was Ojukwu but that changed during the Biafran war when my people were attacked in Asaba because they thought it was the same Ojukwu.

“I was born into Damasus, and when I asked why, that was the reason they gave me,” Damasus shared.
