Jay-Z Accuses Lawyer Tony Buzbee Of Blackmailing Him

Jay-Z has filed new court documents detailing what he claims was a planned attempt by attorney Tony Buzbee to extort enormous sums of money from him via two distinct allegations, one of which was dismissed and the other never made it to court.

According to records acquired by TMZ, Buzbee wrote Jay-Z two demand letters in November 2024. One letter was addressed to a Jane Doe, who claimed Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs r@ped her when she was 13 years old in 2000. The second case had a John Doe who claimed Jay-Z sexually attacked him at a Beverly Hills party in 2015 after being discreetly drugged by someone other than Jay-Z.

Jay-Z has refuted both charges, describing them as “false and ridiculous in every respect.” His legal team saw Buzbee’s emails as apparent extortion tactics, with Jay-Z claiming that Buzbee requested “something of substance” to resolve the “situation.”

Last week, Jay-Z and Diddy won a legal triumph when the Jane Doe accuser voluntarily dismissed her case. However, Jay-Z’s most recent filing indicates that the timing of the case was deliberate. He claims Buzbee filed it on the eve of his daughter Blue Ivy’s Hollywood debut for Mufasa: The Lion King to put him in a difficult position—either attend the event or hide from media scrutiny. Jay-Z eventually attended the premiere, posing for photos with Blue Ivy and Beyoncé, but he did not speak to the media.

Jay-Z launched a lawsuit against Buzbee in November, claiming extortion, using an anonymous identity. He then disclosed himself as the plaintiff, and Buzbee sought to have the case dismissed.

Jay-Z is currently battling to keep his case against Buzbee alive, arguing in court records that he saw the attorney’s conduct as “an existential threat to my reputation, my career, my family, and everything else I have spent my life achieving.”

Buzbee has not backed down despite the rejection of the Jane Doe lawsuit, telling TMZ, “We expect that lawsuit, which is frivolous, to be dismissed.”

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
