Jude Bellingham Handed 2-Game Ban After Red Card Was Upheld

Jude Bellingham has received a two-game suspension after the Spanish football federation’s disciplinary commission upheld his red card in Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Saturday, February 15.

The England international will miss La Liga games against Girona and Real Betis, and Madrid plans to appeal the verdict.

Bellingham was sent off in the 39th minute of the match at El Sadar, with Madrid leading 1-0.

Referee José Luis Munuera Montero wrote in his report that the midfielder abused him, allegedly shouting, “f–k you.” Madrid and Bellingham disputed this version of events, claiming that camera footage showed him stating, “I’m talking to you with respect,” before apparently saying, “f–k off.”

After the match, Bellingham expressed his frustration, stating, “It’s clear that [the referee] made a mistake, there was a miscommunication. I remember the incident very well, but also I’ve seen the video. The video doesn’t match the [referee’s] report… I hope the footage will be reviewed.”

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti defended Bellingham, suggesting the referee had misunderstood him. “I think [the referee] didn’t understand English well. [Bellingham] said ‘f–k off,’ not ‘f–k you.’ [The referee] made a mistake… I don’t think it’s offensive. Bellingham didn’t do anything to get sent off today.”

The federation also announced that it is investigating media claims claiming that a company associated to Munuera Montero has business links with a number of football organizations and clubs. The referee denied any wrongdoing.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
