Actress and singer Banky W’s wife, Adesua Etomi, has talked about her own experience with hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe type of nausea and vomiting that occurs during pregnancy.
The movie actor responded to the tragedy of Jess Cronshaw, a 24-year-old lady from the UK who battled the illness before taking her own life, on Instagram.
Adesua characterized hyperemesis gravidarum as a “serious condition” that impairs quality of life in the post. She was annoyed because people frequently ignore the illness since they don’t realize how serious it is.
She wrote;
“When I talk about the seriousness of hyperemesis gravidarum, people don’t get it and I hate it. Grateful for my husband, my doctors, family and friends that rallied around me,” she wrote.
“It is not ordinary morning sickness. It is a serious condition that literally affects the quality of your life.”
Hyperemesis gravidarum is the most severe form of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. It is characterized by persistent nausea and vomiting not related to other causes that is associated with a measure of acute starvation, such as ketosis and weight loss (>5% of prepregnancy weight). This condition may cause volume depletion, electrolytes and acid-base imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and even death. Severe hyperemesis requiring hospital admission occurs in 0.3-3% of pregnancies.
