The celebrity-backslide game has become such a widespread reality within the past two months that I don’t even have a joke for you; I only have photos of Angelina Jolie arriving at her ex’s apartment twice within the past week, first with a bottle of wine, then with one of her kids. What does it mean? I personally have no confirmed intel on the situation, only my suspicions.
Here is what I do know: Jolie is, ostensibly, single and mired in complex and contentious divorce proceedings with another ex-husband, Brad Pitt. The ex whose apartment she’s been visiting, Jonny Lee Miller — whom she met on the set of Hackers in 1995 and married in 1996 — is ostensibly also single, having gone through his own divorce in 2018. (He and Jolie divorced in 1999.) The paparazzi first spotted Jolie entering and exiting Miller’s building, alone and carrying a bottle of wine on her way in, on Friday; then, on Tuesday, she and her 17-year-old son, Pax, were seen there again. According to People, Jolie and Miller have “remained good friends over the years,” as have their kids, some of whom were reportedly also present for these hangs. But still! It has come to my attention that Jolie once said divorcing Miller “was probably the dumbest thing [she’s] ever done.” And then! These back-to-back drop-ins just so happen to land amid a possibly unprecedented wave of famous-ex reunions.
You know, of course, that Bennifer — the original-issue, Ben Affleck <3 J.Lo edition — is back on, baby. That’s as of just after J.Lo and A-Rod announced the dissolution of their engagement in late April. A-Rod, reportedly devastated, splashed pictures of himself hanging out with his ex-wife, Cynthia Scurtis, all over Instagram this past weekend.

Unfortunately for him, Scurtis is married, so small potential for rekindling there. (In this climate, I’m ruling out nothing.) But you know who is not married? Jennifer Garner, Affleck’s other ex, who is rumored to have just gotten back together with one of her former BFs, CaliBurger CEO John Miller. No relation to Jonny Lee!
None of which means there’s necessarily anything going on between Jolie and Miller. Possibly the thing is just that my celebrity recoupling antennae are up. Anyway, Jolie appears to be spending a lot of time at her ex-husband’s house during this little New York jaunt. Make of that what you will.
