Fatima Malam, a middle-aged woman, is wanted for reportedly stabbing Sherifat Usman, a neighbour’s 6-year-old daughter, at Gadon Kaya Damatsiri in the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to reports, the woman stabbed Sherifat in retaliation for her husband’s stated intention to find another wife with the help of the victim’s father.
According to a local source, Fatima stabbed Sherifat multiple times in the stomach with the goal of killing her as retaliation for her father’s reported invasion of her marital home.
According to the source, Fatima became upset when she discovered that Sherifat’s father, a close friend of her husband, had given him advice to take a second wife.
Fatima’s husband, Mallam, claimed that his wife is mentally unstable.
Meanwhile, it turned out from the investigation that Fatima had enticed Sherifat to accompany her to Mariri in the Kumbotso Local Government Area where she repeatedly stabbed the little girl on her stomach.
“On their way to Mariri, Fatima bought a kitchen knife on credit. She took Sherifat to an uncompleted building where she stabbed her severally on her stomach with the sole intention to kill her,” the source explained.
“Fatima wanted to kill Sherifat because she felt her father was the one instigating her husband to get a second wife.
“Fatima has been acting strange in recent times. Some weeks ago, she brought out a pestle one evening threatening that she would kill somebody if her husband eventually takes another wife.”
Additionally, it was reported that after stabbing Sherifat, Fatima hurriedly fled the scene thinking the young girl had passed away.
But as she cried, onlookers were drawn and eventually rushed into the incomplete structure to save the young girl who had survived the horrific attack.
On May 17, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesman for the State Police Command, acknowledged the occurrence to the press and stated that the matter is still under investigation while police work to apprehend the evading offender.
