Apple Will Now Let You Delete & Edit iPhone Messages

Yippee! You can now edit or unsend that embarrassing text from your iPhone Messages.

As part of its WWDC 2022 keynote, Apple has announced changes coming to Messages on iPhone with iOS 16 that should put an end to the embarrassment caused by sending texts containing typos.

The feature comes in a new update, iOS 16, which was revealed at Apple’s WWDC event this week and will be released in full later this year.

The three incoming features are message editing, undo, and the ability to mark a conversation as unread.

When that update arrives, users will be able to delete an iMessage once it’s been sent. Users would then not be able to see the message.

Similarly, users will be able to edit messages so that they can fix typos, for example. Again, people will see that a message has been edited.

Those options will be available for 30 days after the message is sent.

The update brings Apple along with other messaging platforms like Slack and Telegram, both of which already include edit and delete buttons.

Others, such as WhatsApp, offer the option to delete messages but not edit them.

The new edit feature will allow you to correct any mistakes even after you’ve hit send, while undo will let you delete a message that you fired off by accident. It will work in a slightly different way, with the app holding the message for a few seconds before it is sent.

So whether you’ve mistyped a friend’s name or sent a message intended for one person to someone else, now you’ll be able to correct your mistakes as soon as you spot them.

Google’s Gmail has long offered a similar option.
