The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Major General Farouk Yahaya for appointment as Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
The confirmation of Yahaya followed the presentation and consideration of the report of the Joint Senate Committee on Defence and Army at plenary. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Aliyu Wamakko presented the report.

General Yahaya has been serving as COAS on acting capacity following the death of his predecessor, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a military plane crash in Kaduna.
