Christian Eriksen provided an encouraging update on his condition and thanked all those who have supported him as he was discharged from the hospital on Friday afternoon.
You will recall that Eriksen, 29, suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 fixture with Finland last Saturday and required life-saving CPR and defibrillation on the pitch.
The Inter Milan midfielder was rushed to a Copenhagen hospital in the wake of his collapse and spent six days under the close supervision of medical professionals.
Eriksen was also fitted with a heart-starter device (IDC) on the recommendation of heart specialists, and he confirmed the operation was a success as he departed the hospital.
The former Tottenham Hotspur star will return home to spend time with his family, while he also paid a visit to his Denmark teammates on Friday.
“Thank you for the massive number of greetings – it has been incredible to see and feel,” said Eriksen.
“The operation went well, and I am doing well under the circumstances. It was great to see the guys again after the fantastic game they played last night.
“No need to say that I will be cheering on them on Monday against Russia.”
A statement from the Danish FA added: “Christian Eriksen has been through a successful operation and was today discharged from Rigshospitalet.
“Today he also visited the national team in Helsingor – and from there he will go home and spend time with his family.”
Eriksen watched from his hospital bed as Denmark fell just short with a 2-1 defeat by Group B-favourites Belgium on Thursday evening.
Both teams paid a touching tribute to Eriksen during the match, with play halted in the 10th minute as Eriksen wears the No. 10 jerseys for his country.
Defeat by Belgium dented Denmark’s hopes of reaching the last 16 of Euro 2020, as they also lost 1-0 to Finland once the match restarted in the wake of Eriksen’s collapse.
But for the Scandinavian nation, the most important thing is that Eriksen is alive and on the mend in the wake of his horrendous ordeal.

A visibly distraught Kasper Hjulmand declared as much in the aftermath of the incident. The Denmark boss said: “First of all if it gets emotional, it’s been a tough night.
“We are all reminded of what the most important thing in life is to have valuable relationships, people we’re close to, our family and our friends.
“We have a group of players that I cannot praise enough. I couldn’t be prouder of those people who took such good care of each other.
“He is one of my very dear friends, the way the players talked in the dressing room to decide to not do anything before we knew Christian was conscious and OK.”
