Church Building Collapses In Taraba Killing Two, Injuring Other Members

It is believed that at least two people lost their lives when a worship facility in Taraba State’s southern region collapsed.  Several hours of torrential rain were alleged to have brought down the worship facility, known as the Holy Ghost Church, which had been in operation for a number of years.

The church, which was located in the Abed Pave neighborhood in Chachanji town of Takum Local Government, was demolished as a service was taking place, according to reports.

This, as noted by a Daily Post correspondent, occurred less than a week after the local government council was engulfed by floodwaters, which left travelers stranded for a number of hours.

In addition to the two people who were verified to have perished as a result of the tragedy, other worshippers were believed to have managed to flee the scene with serious injuries, the correspondent said.

According to the council chairman, Shiban Tikari, who confirmed the allegation to the correspondent, no fewer than two people lost their lives as a result of the incident.

The bishop of The Holy Ghost Church is confident about the council’s ability to figure out procedures to aid the church in question, even though he (the bishop), acknowledged that he has not yet visited the branch.

The incident was also confirmed to the correspondent by Mathew Adega, a former Supervisory Councilor for Chachanji ward who also commented on the incident. He said the two victims were a male and a female.

Adega, who was unable to determine the exact number of people who were injured at the time of the incident’s confirmation, concurred that several church members were injured in one way or another as a result of the occurrence.

The church building collapsed unexpectedly, according to some members of the community who spoke to the correspondent as it was raining cats and dogs in the neighborhood.
