Former Ajax Striker Given 6 Years Sentenced For Importing Cocaine

Quincy Promes, a former football legend for Ajax, was sentenced to six years in prison for his role in the importation of approximately 1,350 kilogrammes of cocaine.

Promes was charged in May of last year for his alleged role in the cocaine smuggling, which resulted in two batches of 650 kg and 713 kg of cocaine being discovered in Antwerp in January 2020.

Promes and a 32-year-old co-suspect have now been formally found guilty by the Public Prosecution Service of importing, exporting, transporting, and possessing the drugs.

The drugs were allegedly shipped to Antwerp in two containers from Brazil, where the cocaine was concealed in a cargo of sea salt.

The former Ajax winger never spoke about the charges against him as he did not show up for the trial, according to NOS.

According to additional sources, the former Netherlands international ignored the court dates, indicating that he feels “untouchable.”

According to NL Times, prosecutors said: “He seems to think he is untouchable in Russia or abroad.”

It’s also reported that prosecutors wanted to know “how such a successful footballer allowed himself to be drawn so deeply into crime.”

When the case was brought forward last month, Dutch officials had originally requested a nine-year prison sentence for the Spartak Moscow forward.

Prosecutors claimed that Promes “normalises and almost romanticises the cocaine trade” in their demand for the nine-year term.

Prosecutors contend that Promes’ wealth allowed him to invest and, as a result, move up the organisational ladder.

“The case came to light after the police Criminal Intelligence Team received information that the 32-year-old man who now lives in Russia was involved in the cocaine trade,” the Dutch Public Prosecution Service said.

“He is also said to own crypto phones and has invested 200,000 euros in the trade.

“That information prompted an investigation to be launched. Eavesdropping equipment was placed in the suspect’s car and the suspect was observed.

“The accuracy of the TCI information was confirmed, partly by seized telephones from others in which conversations were found in which the suspects also participated.

“Many chat messages made it clear that both suspects were involved in bringing in, removing and further transporting and selling these two consignments.”

Promes was given an 18-month prison sentence back in June for stabbing his cousin.

The incident that occurred in July of 2020 led to the arrest of the 31-year-old forward, who plays forward for the Russian team Spartak Moscow, in December of that same year.

According to ESPN, the Dutch court determined that Promes’ assault allegations were substantiated, but it concluded that neither attempted murder nor manslaughter had occurred.

At a family gathering at a warehouse in Abcoude, Promes was stabbed in the leg following an altercation about stolen jewellery.

At the time, he was playing for Ajax in the Netherlands, but in February 2021, he relocated to Spartak.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
