Dr. Olumide Phillips, the founder of Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos, has stepped down.

In a statement signed by Tomi Borisade, Phillips, who served as the institution’s board chairman, the college also announced their (board) retirement.

The statement partly reads, “The founding members of the Board of Governors including the founder and Chairman of the Board, Dr. O. Olumide Phillips, have decided to retire and pass the baton of change to a new generation of seasoned professionals who will run with the vision, leadership passion, commitment and values they have worked rigorously to establish.

“This will also enhance communication and effectiveness with the Parents Teachers Forum.”

The school also stated that it is collaborating with the Lagos State Ministry of Education and has taken their advice and recommendations into consideration in a variety of areas.

They also committed to making infrastructure improvements to the hostels and school facilities in order to improve safety and oversight on school grounds.

The administration finished by expressing condolences to the late Sylvester Oromoni’s family and prayed that such a sad occurrence never happens again at the institution.

Recall that AgnesIsika Blog previously reported that the 5 Students and 5 staff arrested over the death of Sylvester had been released by the police.

The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has clarified why the state cleared five pupils and five Dowen College employees accused of being involved in the death of a student, Sylvester Oromoni.

On Thursday in Lagos, a credible source in the directorate, who requested anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that investigations had found no prima-facie case of murder against the suspects.

He refuted the claims on social media that the case was being covered up.

Dowen College was closed in 2021 as a result of the demonstrations and outrage following Oromoni’s death.
