German Police Appeal For Images In Which Americans Were Pushed Down A Slope

The attack near Neuschwanstein castle, in which an American man is accused of pushing two women down a steep hill and killing one of them, is being investigated by German police, who are looking for photographs and videos recorded by witnesses.

The attack was followed by the arrest of a suspect.

Police were quoted by the German news agency dpa as saying that although they have only received a small number of entries on a specially designed website, they anticipate that many more tourists who were there on site on Wednesday took a lot more video.

“We are looking for photographs which, by chance, show two young women and a man (approximately 30 years old) who were staying east of the Marienbruecke,” Kempten police said on their website. “These persons may have been walking together or separately.”

The most well-known of the castles built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the 19th century, Neuschwanstein, may be seen from the Marienbruecke, also known as Mary’s Bridge.

According to the preliminary police investigation, the suspect enticed the two female tourists—Americans who were 21 and 22 years old—onto a footpath that leads to an overlook after meeting them on a hiking trail.

“The younger of the two women was attacked by the suspect,” police spokesman Holger Stabik said.

“The older one tried to rush to her aid, was then choked by the suspect and subsequently pushed down a slope.”

The attacker then appears to have made an attempt at sexual assault before forcing the 21-year-old down the slope as well. She dropped about 50 meters, landing next to her friend.

Mountain rescue personnel found both women. After being rushed to a hospital with critical injuries, the 21-year-old passed away.

Police stated that the 22-year-old is “responsive” and is still in the hospital.

The victims’ identities and other information have not been released by the authorities.

Prosecutors said the suspect, who was also not identified, is still in jail on charges of murder and an attempted murder. They said that it was unclear how long the suspect had been in the nation.

The incident was reported to the US Embassy in Berlin, which also reported that the US Consulate in Munich was in touch with law enforcement.

The embassy sent a statement saying that it was “unable to comment further at this time due to privacy considerations.”
