Iago Kiladze, a Ukrainian heavyweight boxer, punched the referee Samuel Burgos after he stopped his bout with Viktor Faust, another Ukrainian boxer, over the weekend.

On New Year’s Day in Florida, Kiladze faced Faust on the undercard of the Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin main event.

From the first bell, his fight with Faust was intense, with both boxers going all out for the win.

Kiladze was stunned early in the fight after being dropped by a left hook in the first round.

Interestingly, Faust, who had never been knocked down prior to this fight, got a taste of his own medicine when he was knocked down by Kiladze after a sharp counter right from the Ukranian not long after he had recovered from the mat.

Both boxers had five knockdowns between them, which is unusual, especially so early in a fight.

When Faust, 29, was knocked down for only the second time in his career, Kiladze scored the fourth of the aforementioned five knockdowns, but the referee did not intervene until an overhand right knocked down Kiladze.

Burgos instructed Kiladze to approach him, but the fight was called off when the Ukrainian stumbled.

The fans, as well as Faust, who was awarded the victory, were extremely disappointed.

He couldn’t hide his confusion with the outcome.

Killadze, 35, however, appeared to vent his frustrations with a quick jab at Burgos as the official stopped the fight.

The act was obviously perplexing to viewers around the world, but Burgos was fortunate enough to see the lighter side of the situation and laugh it off.

However, this is not the first time a referee is being attacked in professional boxing.

During the European Youth Boxing Championship in 2014 at Zagreb, Croatia, Vido Loncar of Croatia and Algirdas Baniulis of Lithuania fought, and Loncar had a similar reaction after losing, except that he gave the referee repeated punches.
