Abba Kyari, head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team may suffer the same fate as EFCC leader Ibrahim Magu, who was suspended for alleged insubordination and re-looting of confiscated funds.
In July 2020, the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Mr. Magu for allegedly re-looting recovered monies while battling corruption.
Abba Kyari, who has been at the vanguard of combating crime in the country, notably in the southeast, has also been accused of accepting bribes from Instagram celebrity Hushpuppi, who is currently on trial in the United States on money laundering charges.
Hushpuppi allegedly bribed Kyari to arrest Mr. Kelly Chibuzo Vincent, one of his collaborators in Nigeria, according to the United States Department of Justice, Daily Post published on Thursday.
This claim was rejected by the police chief in a hastily prepared statement he made on his verified Facebook page on Thursday.
DCP was arrested and detained as a result of these allegations, according to a ruling from U.S. District Judge Otis Wright.
DAILY POST reported that the claim sparked a backlash from various Nigerians, including high political officials, who resorted to social media to demand the immediate dismissal of the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The former presidential assistant, Reno Omokri said Nigerians are waiting patiently to see how President Muhammadu Buhari will react to the situation.
This, he says, is what determines whether or not the president treats some ethnic groups in Nigeria more favorably than others.
In a tweet, Reno Omokri said, “Now that the lid has been blown off Abba Kyari’s ‘other room’ activities we await what the Nigerian Government will do with its so-called super cop, whose recent pastimes has been to attend celebrity weddings and burials. This alleged FBI indictment must not be swept under the table because he shares an ethnicity with Buhari.
“We watch to see if Buhari will arrest Abba Kyari with the same speed and brutality with which he attempted to arrest Sunday Igboho. This will help us know whether some are more equal than others in Nigeria. Because if Abba Kyari was Igbo, by now he would have been suspended”.
Simon Ekpa, one of Mazi Kanu’s followers, declared that Nigeria only knows how to “produce crooks like Abba Kyari” in response to the claims.
“We’re no longer talking about criminals on the street, but rather criminals in uniform. Specifically, we’re talking about yahoo boys in uniform.
On Thursday, the Finland citizen said that “Abba Kyari is responsible for all of the killings that have taken place in Biafra Land, including the burning of all police stations.”
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, also called on President Buhari to order a thorough examination of the claims.
This, according to the People Democratic Party (PDP), is alarming, disconcerting, and a stain on the country’s good name.
According to Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP spokesperson, the revelation should not be ignored. The PDP also urged that the matter not be ignored.
“Kyari and top APC leaders have a good working relationship, and our party requests that the APC administration not sweep this issue under the rug”.
There was also a call for President Buhari to enable a thorough inquiry into the suspect’s case, rather than “smooth out” this matter and damage our nation’s dignity and reputation.
Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister, said Kyrai had risked his life to save the country from criminal elements.

A super cop that has risked his life protecting us from kidnappers, murderers & terrorists all these years & that has arrested more criminals than any other is accused of taking bribes from a yahoo boy & scammer all the way from America & we are expected to believe it? Not me!
“Abba is one of the bravest, brightest and best cops in Nigeria and I will not believe these crazy allegations leveled against him or condemn him unless I see any evidence to the contrary”, Fani-Kayode said in a Facebook post.
But on Thursday, Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, ordered an internal probe of the charges against him.
CP Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer, said in a statement that “the Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to the pursuit of justice and the deepening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other foreign partners”.
