Hushpuppi Sentenced To 11 Years In Prison By US Court

Ramon Abbas, better known by his Instagram handle Hushpuppi, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Hushpuppi was given an 11-year prison term on Friday by the United States Central District Court in California for fraud and money laundering.

Recall that Hushpuppi was detained in Dubai in June 2020 as a result of a large-scale fraud scheme that defrauded victims in the United States, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and other countries of their money.

He was then forwarded to the US, where he was accused of bank fraud, identity theft, multiple counts of hacking, impersonation, scamming, and money laundering.

The Nigerian social media celebrity pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy to engage in money laundering.

Having already spent two years behind bars in the US, Hushpuppi will now serve only nine years in prison.

He had previously written a letter of appeal to Judge Otis Wright, detailing his wealth, criminal past, and regrets.

He expressed regret to his family and thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for doing a thorough job of bringing him to justice.

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
