Iranian footballer Sentenced To 26 Years In Prison For Protests

The Iranian government has sentenced Iranian footballer Amir Nasr Azadani to 26 years in prison for his involvement in shocking protests across the country.

Mirror reported that Nasr-Azadani was guilty of “participating in hostilities against God” for this action and that a security official died during the demonstration.

Hundreds of protesters have died in the country’s capital Tehran and other cities after Mahsa Amini died in moral police custody two months before him.

A 22-year-old woman died in police custody after being arrested for wearing a hijab improperly.

Samangodos, the only Iranian in the Premier League, told The Mirror earlier this month that it was right for players to speak up for those calling for change. The Islamic Republic said Nasr Azadani was implicated in two other crimes committed during the protests.

Reports from Iran say the footballer’s confession was coerced out of fear that his family was being silenced.

However, footballers are free to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court.

The Arab Middle East also sentenced three other protesters to death after being convicted of killing security personnel at protests that began on September 17, 2022.
