Lagos Police Rescue Two-Week-Old Baby Sold For ₦3 Million

There are times when some news you come across throws you off balance. Why will a parent decide to sell their kid? What level of illiteracy, starvation, or greed would hits a parent so bad that they then decide to sell your child? Hmmm.

Five people, four of whom are women and one of whom is a man, have been taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command on suspicion of kidnapping and selling a two-week-old infant for ₦3 million.

Officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) made the arrests following a thorough investigation, police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin revealed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

On May 5, a guy informed the Ajah Police Division that his 16-year-old cousin had become pregnant by an unidentified individual, sparking the start of the case.

Her mother made arrangements for her to reside with a guardian until the delivery due to financial concerns. The guardian, however, is accused of plotting with four other people to relocate the girl to a secret place. She was no longer pregnant when she was eventually located; both she and the unborn child were gone.

Detectives discovered a troubling plot after conducting a thorough investigation: the two-week-old newborn had been sold for ₦3 million. The infant was eventually located in good health by police in the Agemuwo neighborhood of Badagry.

The Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit is currently caring for the infant, and efforts are underway to bring him back to his biological mother.

In addition to stating that investigations are ongoing to guarantee that all those implicated are held accountable, CSP Hundeyin reiterated the command’s dedication to combating human trafficking and safeguarding individuals who are at risk.

Gentle Reminder: Be careful not to assume that your strength is the reason you are standing. The one whom God keeps is the one who is kept.
