Life Is Full Of Surprises

Life Is Full Of Surprises

Our road in life is full of surprises, prepared by Providential grace!

In 1 Kings 17:7-24, the poor widow could barely provide meal for herself and her son. She had no source of income nor hope for tomorrow’s survival. Yet, she was foreordained by God to be the sustainer of the prophet!

But how strange that a widow with only “a handful of meal” should be “commanded” to offer hospitality! It is once again part of the “surprises” set before us. It would have been a dull commonplace to have fed the prophet from the overflowing larder of the rich man’s palace. But to work from an almost empty cupboard! That is the surprising way of the Lord.

God delights to hang great weights on apparently slender wires, to have great events turn on seeming trifles, and to make poverty the minister of “the indescribable riches of Christ.”

The poor widow sacrificed her “handful of meal,” and received an unfailing supply. And this, too, is the way of the Lord.

When the Lord has need of us, no matter what state we are in… our duty is to obey.

When we sincerely answer His call and do His bidding, we find a refreshing spring at the other side of our obedience. Clearly His ways are not ours; and the man who must work with God must learn to sacrifice human reasoning for unrestrained obedience to the will of the Master.
