Guinness World Record: Nigerian Onakoya Remains Unbeaten In Chess Marathon

Famous talented chess master; Tunde Onakoya played the game for 20 hours, defeating every opponent, as he began his quest to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, which is to last for 58 hours.

The event began on Wednesday, April 17, and is slated to end on April 19 at New York City’s famous Times Square.

In every meeting thus far, including his battle against Shawn Martinez, the National Chess Master of New York, Onakoya has come out on top.

“Tunde Onakoya beats a very worthy opponent and one of New York’s finest, National Chess Master Shawn Martinez!” was the headline of a post made on his X handle early on Thursday.

The manager of Onakoya, Taiwo, who goes by the X handle “OgaBoxx,” has also offered details about the nature of the task.

According to Taiwo, Onakoya took an overall break of thirty minutes following fifteen hours of nonstop play against twelve opponents. The regulations provide for a five-minute break for each hour of play.

Onakoya, he said, is playing two sets of games at once and can’t lose either.

“The opponent on the first set is US National Chess Master Shawn Martinez, and he will play with Tunde throughout the attempt,” the author said.

The players who oppose you in the second set are at random. On either set, he is unbeatable in every game.

“Only Tunde’s match against Shawn Martinez is considered valid for the record. He is not competing in his simultaneous play against random opponents in the second set. NYC, come out and play regardless.”

Nigerians living overseas have shown a great deal of support for the chess master by attending the event and lending their attention.

In addition, Onakoya has received supportive letters from a number of Nigerian officials, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Peoples Democratic Party presidential contender for 2023 Atiku Abubakar, and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Onakoya has also received well wishes from the US Mission in Nigeria and the UK Mission in Nigeria via their respective X handles.

Kudos Tunde! Stay focused! We are rooting for you.
