After being wrongly declared dead by government officials, an Indian man allegedly turned to committing crimes to prove that he was still alive.

According to Law Trend, Baburam Bhil, a resident of Mithora village in the Balotra district, was shocked to receive a death certificate under his name. This bureaucratic error left him without a legal identity and put his property and rights in jeopardy.

Although he tried to repair the mistake by legal methods, this did not work, leaving him faceless through the prism of the law. Therefore, Bhil allegedly devised a plan in which he thought he would have to commit a crime for the authorities to acknowledge his existence.

“In a shocking move, Bhil armed himself with knives and a bottle of petrol and attacked two teachers and a parent at a local school. “The incident, which resulted in immediate police intervention, finally brought Bhil the attention he sought, albeit for all the wrong reasons,” reported Law Trend.

Upon his capture and ensuing interrogation, Bhil explained the unusual reason for his conduct, emphasizing his position. “I had no choice but to make them see I was alive. I feared my property would soon be claimed by others due to the death certificate,” he was quoted as saying.
