A hunt has been initiated to apprehend an elderly prisoner who escaped over the weekend from Nevada, America.
The Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) released a statement stating that 69-year-old Joan Wenger left Jean Conservation Camp in Jean, which is located just north of Las Vegas.
When prison officials counted in the early hours of Saturday morning, they discovered Wenger was missing. The NDOC said in a statement, “Escape procedures were initiated, and search teams remain in effect.”
According to the NDOC, Wenger was given a 10-year sentence for vehicle homicide after being admitted on December 1, 2021.
“A retake warrant has been issued and anyone with information on the whereabouts of Wenger should immediately call 911,” said the NDOC.
Wegner, who has a history of driving while intoxicated, reportedly collided and killed a lady in February 2020, according to Record-Courier. According to the article, Wenger struck the rear of the car that had killed Laura Staugaard and her kid. Staugaard, seventy years old, was thrown from the car and perished.
In December 2020, Wegner was finally taken into custody in relation to the crash. She said to the judge in court that she took advantage of the time to ensure her animals had a place to live in Colorado and Arizona.
She was cited at the time as stating, “I wish every day that horrific deadly decision to drink and drive had never happened.”
Wenger reportedly reached a plea agreement with the prosecution, agreeing to admit guilt in return for a sentence suggestion ranging from 10 to 25 years in prison. She was given a prison sentence as well as a reparation order of more than R640,000.
