Police Officers Allegedly Attacked In Ebonyi State

CP Aliyu Garba, the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, has claimed that some officers stationed in the Effium/Ezza village have been attacked.

Remember that instability has erupted in the Effium/Ezza community in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area since January 22, 2021, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of persons and the damage of property worth millions of naira.

Security personnel, including troops, police, and other security agencies, were claimed to have been deployed to the location to reinstate peace and order, according to DAILY POST.

Meanwhile, Garba claims that bandits operating in the area attacked its personnel who were dispatched to the area.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokeswoman, DSP Loveth Odah, and emailed to DAILY POST, CP Garba stated that the command will not condone any future attacks on its officers.

According to the statement, “The attention of the Ebonyi State Police Command has been drawn to the unfortunate attack on the security personnel posted to Effium for peacekeeping in the crisis-torn communities precisely at Inikiri Bernard and Effium Urban on 23/08/2021.

“The attackers destroyed their camps, setting ablaze their personal effects and one motorcycle allocated to them for domestic use.”

The commissioner issued a warning against further incursions and urged stakeholders to warn their youths.

He noted, however, that the event by suspected Effium/Ezza combatants was unjustified because security agencies had maintained a high degree of professionalism by remaining impartial since the crisis began.

The story would have been different if the officers had not used shackles, according to CP Garba.

“I warn that the command and other security agencies would not tolerate any further incursion nor attack whatsoever from any of the warring tribes. The highly disciplined officers are there to restore peace and would continue doing that to the best of their ability,” he stated.

As a result, he urged stakeholders on each side of the Effium/Ezza to “caution their youths/worries to desist from taking laws into their hands as the security agencies are more than capable of defending their lives in an event of any further attack.”

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
