Suspected Kidnapper Killed, Another Arrested By Ogun state Police In Abeokuta

A suspected kidnapper was killed, and his crime partner, captured by the Ogun state police in a gunfight at the Ilala Forest in the Imala Area of Abeokuta, on Tuesday.

In a statement, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said one member of a kidnapping group had been apprehended and another had been shot dead at Ilala Forest in the Imala region of Abeokuta North Local Government Area.

“This is coming barely 24 hours after two members of another kidnap syndicate were gunned down at Itori area of Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state,” he said in the statement.

“The gun battle between the police and the kidnappers was as a result of information received by the police at Imala Divisional Headquarters that six armed kidnappers were sighted in the forest,” he explained.

“Upon the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Imala Division, CSP Bernard Ediagbonya mobilized men, hunters, vigilance men, as well as Fulani youths and stormed the forest.

“On getting to the scene, the hoodlums who sighted the team from afar opened fire and the team responded appropriately.

“In the process, one of the hoodlums was gunned down, while another one who identified himself as Usman Maidama was arrested. Other members of the gang escaped into the bush with gunshot injuries,’’ he said.

Oyeyemi further revealed that among the items seized from the gang members were a single barrel rifle, a face mask, and two pairs of sandals, among other things.
