All Americans still in Russia have been advised by the US Embassy in Moscow, to leave right now in order to avoid being drafted into Vladimir Putin’s army, which is been assembled to fight Ukraine.
The embassy issued a warning that leaving Russia has grown more challenging as a result of overbooked flights and border closures by Putin’s troops.
It said, “Americans residing or travelling in Russia should depart Russia immediately while limited commercial travel options remain.”
Putin said last week that he would gather 300,000 men of fighting age to battle Ukraine, causing chaos in recruitment centres, airports, and at the borders.
Russians have been attempting to book flights, with single tickets costing over $10,000 to places like Dubai.
According to the US Embassy, “Commercial flight options are extremely limited at present and are often unavailable on short notice.
“Overland routes by car and bus are still open. If you wish to depart Russia, you should make independent arrangements as soon as possible.
“The U.S. Embassy has severe limitations on its ability to assist U.S. citizens, and conditions, including transportation options, may suddenly become even more limited.”
The embassy also issued a warning to any American thinking of protesting because “peaceful assembly and freedom of expression are not guaranteed.”
On Tuesday, September, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that in the wake of Putin’s mobilization, the White House will grant political asylum to those escaping Russia.
She said, “We are seeing protests in the streets of Russia, we are seeing people sign petitions, and I think the message they are sending to us very clearly is that this war that Putin started … is unpopular.
“There are people out there in Russia who do not want to fight Putin’s war or die for it.”
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.”
