Weekly Football News Catch Up: February 12th: “I Suffered At Arsenal” – Iwobi; Premier League Teams Want Man City Out; Others

Leeds United Sacks It’s Manager Jesse Marsch

Premier League club, Leeds United has fired its manager Jesse Marsch after a recent string of disappointing outcomes.

Since November 5, 2022, Leeds has not won a Premier League game, and the American manager who succeeded Marcelo Bielsa last season has been shown the door.

They are currently 17th in the Premier League rankings, just outside the relegation zone on goal differential, with their 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Sunday being the final straw.

The dismissal was confirmed in a brief statement issued by the team on Monday, along with the announcement of the replacement later in the week.

Nigerian Footballer Slumps And Dies During Match In Spain

Ado Bala Hadi, a football player from Nigeria, died while playing for CD Madridejos, a club in Spain’s fourth division.

Hadi collapsed to the ground in the 39th minute of CD Madridejos’ league match against SP Cabanillas.

All attempts to bring him back to life were unsuccessful, and he was later pronounced dead.

The 21-year-old was on the roster of Jigawa Golden Stars of the Nigeria National League before joining CD Madridejos last year.

The defender had made nine appearances for Jigawa Golden Stars.

Had was one of the four Nigerian players who played for CD Madridejos up until his passing.

Premier League Teams Want Man City Out

English Premier League teams reportedly want Manchester City to be thrown out of the league if they are found to have broken financial regulations in the past nine years.

The Premier League referred the Etihad club to a separate commission for an investigation into more than 100 suspected financial rule violations over nine years as well as five more recent incidents of the club’s failure to cooperate with the league’s initial investigation.

The majority of the breaches basically accuse the club of avoiding financial fair play, inflating sponsorship deals, and paying players and managers inappropriate amounts, with the majority of the breaches “in particular with respect to its revenue (including sponsorship revenue), its related parties and its operating costs.”

The club won the Premier League three times during that span in addition to three Carabao Cups and an FA Cup triumph.

The teams who had been pushing for action against City the most, according to the report, were some of the other “big six” clubs, which also include Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham.

In these conditions, the English Football League would not be required to accept City, according to a report, and the Premier League’s most severe sanction would be their expulsion.

If they are found guilty, they face a variety of penalties, including a simple fine, points reduction, the loss of trophies won during that period, and even expulsion from the Premier League.

According to sources, most clubs are lobbying for the latter, with many believing that retroactively taking away trophies previously won will have little effect.

“Many Premier League clubs want Manchester City to be kicked out of the division if they are found guilty of breaking rules over nine seasons”, Sky Sports reported.

However, they add, “Premier League clubs do not want to get involved in the process, which is in the hands of an independent commission.”

The decision might take years, and Manchester City is prepared to “robustly” defend itself against the allegations.

According to reports, Manchester City has asked well-known UK attorney Lord Pannick KC to defend them against claims of financial misconduct.

“I Suffered At Arsenal” – Alex Iwobi

Alex Iwobi, a midfielder for the Super Eagles, has shared his experiences at Arsenal before leaving the team.

The Nigerian international claimed that while receiving criticism from Arsenal supporters, his family was crucial in helping him maintain his sanity.

Iwobi, an Arsenal academy graduate, signed a five-year, £35 million contract with Everton in the summer of 2019.

“When I played for Arsenal, a lot of people questioned my abilities. The criticisms were just too much,” the midfielder, who is now a regular at Everton, told Premier League Productions.

Iwobi specifically praised his father for always being there for him and helping him understand the difficulties of playing for a big club like Arsenal.

“But I had my family who stood behind me. My dad kept telling me that I am at such a big club for a reason and I should keep working hard. He was instrumental in me overcoming such harsh feedback,” he added.

The Nigerian midfielder claimed that he has come to terms with the fact that there will always be critics and has made the decision to go out and give it his all.

Erik ten Hag Speaks With Greenwood After Charges Dropped

Mason Greenwood spoke for the first time with Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, following the dismissal of his charges

Charges of attempted rape, violence, and coercive behaviour against the Red Devils striker were dismissed last week.

The 21-year-old was sidelined for more than a year due to accusations involving pictures and videos that went viral on social media.

United is still looking into the situation internally, despite the charges being dismissed.

The striker has reportedly been contacted by the Manchester United manager for talks, and according to a source, the former Ajax manager asked him “how he was feeling physically and mentally.”

The Dutchman believed it was appropriate to contact the England player, who was one of the club’s brightest prospects before the video went viral, and was “pleased the charges had been dismissed,” according to the newspaper.

However, the player had been corresponding with the team via a third party before their one-on-one meeting.
