Woman Stabs Her Daughter To Death With A Broken Bottle

The police have detained Kafayat Lawal, a 45-year-old mother of two after she was accused by her husband of beating her two daughters and stabbing her 17-year-old daughter, Ayomide Adekoya.

Following information received by CSP Mohammed Suleman Baba, DPO of Ogijo police station, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, it was learned that the suspect had locked her two daughters in a room where she had beaten and injured them with a broken bottle, according to reports.

On getting this information, the DPO organized his men and proceeded to the spot, where the two victims were found, rescued, and rushed to a nearby hospital, where one of them died later that day.

“The suspect was then apprehended and put into custody,” Abimbola Oyeyemi, a police spokeswoman, told reporters in a statement on Friday about the ongoing investigation.

A police interview with the suspect revealed that she claimed to have separated from her husband nine years ago and that her two kids had left home during the previous Sallah, but had not returned until the next day.

The mom had become enraged and attempted to chastise her girls, but neighbors intervened on their behalf and she was forced to leave them, only for them to “go out again the next day and spend the night outside.”

She locked them in their room and hurt them both with a broken bottle because she was irritated by their presence.

Blessing Adekoya, 19-year-old, was injured in the hand while the other daughter Ayomide Adekoya, 17-year-old, was stabbed in the chest and died as a result of her injuries while undergoing treatment, according to the police.

According to Oyeyemi, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has directed that the suspect be sent immediately to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
