100lb Sailfish Leaps Out Of The Water, Stabs Woman

An unfortunate incident happened recently where a 73-year-old woman was stabbed by a 100-pound sailfish after she emerged from the water as her friends dumped her in their boat.

Katherine Perkins’ fishing trip off the coast of Stuart, Florida, took a dramatic turn on July 19, when the bill of the giant fish loaded her in the groin area.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Ms. Perkins of Maryland was standing to photograph two of her fishing comrades when she was injured.

She received immediate help from her companion, 75-year-old Louis Toth and 77-year-old Dominic Belleza, who applied pressure to the wound as they went back ashore.

She has been taken to the hospital in an unspecified condition. The sheriff’s office said Ms. Perkins reported that the fish jumped so quickly that she did not have time to react.

The group was fishing about two miles north of Palm Beach, about two miles from Stuart, when the unexpected strike occurred.

Sailfish are known for being incredibly sharp, recognizable by their long, sharp bills.

According to Wikipedia, Sailfish live in colder pelagic waters of all Earth’s oceans and hold the record for the fastest speed of any marine animal. When freshly hatched, sailfish are hunted by other fishes that mainly survive on eating plankton.

We urge everyone to be careful out there.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
