13-Year-Old Boy Confesses To Killing Grandmother

A 13-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a grandmother who was hit by a car in Sheffield.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared via video connection at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday, October 3 and pleaded guilty to causing the death of 60-year-old Marcia Grant by running her over with her own car in Greenhill on 5 April when he was 12 years old.

The kid already admitted to a second allegation of having a kitchen knife in his possession.

When he initially appeared in court in April, prosecutor Gary Crothers told Sheffield Youth Court that officers on the scene noted the kid saying “Is she dead?” “Looks like I got my first kill?” and “It was an accident, I swear.”

Ben Campbell, his lawyer, stated that the difficulty with these words was “what you can infer from them in all the circumstances.”

Describing the incident, Mr Crothers told the youth court: “At around 7 pm on the evening in question, this defendant is seen on CCTV attempting to take Mrs Grant’s car.

“Mrs Grant tries to stop him by going behind the car.

“On CCTV, the vehicle is driven slightly erratically at this time and it does come to a stop.

“Mrs Grant positions herself behind the vehicle. The vehicle reverses, causing her to fall on her back and her head impacts with the ground.

“She was trapped under the vehicle, her husband tried to break the window of the car to get the defendant out of the car.”

According to the prosecutor, the vehicle then reversed “at some speed, causing Mrs Grant’s catastrophic injuries.”

Although emergency services were dispatched outside her home, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 13-year-old boy was scheduled to stand trial this week on murder charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 1st.

Mrs Grant’s family released a statement after her death, describing her as a “warm, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and a pillar of her community”.
