Three teenage boys, aged 17 to 20, were detained in the early hours of Saturday, January 29 by officers from the Ogun state police command for reportedly killing the girlfriend of one of the suspects for the purpose of a money-making ceremony.

Wariz Oladehinde, 17 years old, Abdul Gafar Lukman, 19 years old, and Mustakeem Balogun, 20 years old, were all arrested after the head of the community security guard reported to Adatan divisional headquarters that the suspects were seen burning something suspected to be a human head in a local pot.

Following the information, SP Abiodun Salau, DPO Adatan division, swiftly led his men to the reported location, where the three suspects were apprehended. Soliu Majekodumi, the dead girl’s lover, was later caught after fleeing the scene.

During interrogation, the captured criminals admitted that the head of their accomplice’s girlfriend was being burned in the local pot. They also admitted the boyfriend, Soliu, lured his girlfriend whose name was Rofiat, to a location where she was murdered by four of them, following which they chopped off her head and discarded the remains in an old building.

They then led police officers to the building, where the mutilated body was found and sent to the general hospital mortuary for examination. A small cutlass and a knife that was used to cut off the deceased’s head were also found.

The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident to reporters, saying that the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, who described the suspects’ actions as cold-hearted, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the
homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for unobtrusive investigation with a view to arraigning them in court as soon as possible.
