2023 Felabration Starts On October 9

Felabration organizers have announced that this year’s edition of their annual music festival commemorating and celebrating Fela Anikulapo Kuti will run from Monday 9 October to Sunday 15 October 2023.

This was announced in a press release provided to journalists in Lagos on Friday 16 June 2023.

This year’s theme is “Question Jam Answer,” a song composed by Fela and published in 1972. The song fits perfectly with the country’s socio-political mood in a fascinating post-election period where people are looking for answers.

Felabration 2023 presents an authentic and vibrant showcase of African music, creativity and resilience through art, dance, fashion and music.

The festival usually features The Senior Secondary Schools Debate, The Fela Debates (Symposium), The Afrobics Dance Competition, The Artwork Competition, The Dress Fela Fashion Competition, The Musical Concert and other activities.

According to the organisers, the concert will feature some of the biggest music stars from Nigeria and foreign artists also registered to perform at the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos.

Felabration is a week-long celebration of Fela’s legacy as the Afrobeat genre creator and a renowned human rights activist.

Conceived in 1998 by Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti to honour the legacy of her father, Felabration is Nigeria’s biggest music festival today. It hosts tens of thousands of attendees annually.

Currently, Felabration Event is organised by the Felabration Organising Committee. Felabration, an official tourist destination of The Lagos State Government, is a major event sponsor.
