22-Year-Old Ukrainian Lady Breaks UK Home After Being Accommodated As A Refugee

A father of two left his wife after finding love with a 22-year-old Ukrainian refugee who came to live with them to escape the Russian assault on her homeland.

Tony Garnett, 29, and his partner Lorna, 28, took in Sofiia Karkadym at the beginning of May, according to Mail Online, but their seemingly peaceful marriage ended just 10 days later when he left the house with the refugee.

The Bradford-based security guard revealed that he is in love with the 22-year-old and wishes to spend the rest of his life with her.

Sofiia, who fled the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, said she ‘fancied’ Tony the moment she saw him and that the two are living their own ‘love story.’

Concerning the emotional pain it will cause Lorna, Tony stated that he has “discovered a connection with Sofiia like I’ve never had before,” saying that they “know this is right.”

Tony told The Sun that he ‘wanted to do the right thing’ by taking Sofiia in, in an effort to assist Ukrainians escaping the Russian invasion and that she was the first person to contact him on a Facebook page where he volunteered to accommodate a refugee.

Sofiia, an IT manager, arrived in Manchester on May 4 after waiting in Berlin for weeks for her UK visa to be approved.

Tony claimed that he and Sofiia hit it off right away and that his six-year-old and three-year-old kids, with the exception of his wife, were fine with her.

Tony, who speaks Slovakian, says he would talk with his future partner if she spoke Ukrainian because the two languages were mutually understood.

Speaking on his relationship with the Ukrainian, Tony said, “We were getting on brilliantly but at that time it was no more than that — although I can see why Lorna started to feel jealous and resentful of her.”

The Ukrainian, sometimes, would follow Tony to the gym and they would discuss in his car, while they became physically closer in the house.

He said, “At home, I realised we were finding excuses to touch and brush against each other, it was very flirtatious but nothing more than that happened at that stage.

“Although it was fairly innocent it was causing arguments. I can understand that. When I got in at night Sofiia would be the one who had made a meal for me to try.”

His wife became ‘very jealous’ as the two became closer, Tony said, and began to wonder why Sofiia was chasing him around all the time.

“The atmosphere was getting really bad and Sofiia told me she didn’t know whether she could continue to live with us under these circumstances,” he said.

“Lorna was never that enthusiastic about having a refugee in our home because it meant the girls had to move into one room.”

According to Tony, he got an idea after an ugly confrontation between the women left Sofiia in tears, saying she can’t live in the same house with Lorna any longer.

“Something inside me clicked,” Tony said, and he told Lorna, “If she’s going, I’m going.”

The two immediately packed their belongings and moved in with Tony’s parents, but they are still looking for a where to settle.

Tony claims he feels awful and that Lorna is not to blame after their ten-year romance ended in just ten days.

He said, “I am so sorry for what Lorna is going through, this was not her fault and it was not about anything she did wrong.

“We never set out to do this, it wasn’t planned and we didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
