24-Year-Old Man Arrested For Selling Fake Eggs On Instagram

Bright Joseph, a 24-year-old man who specialized in promoting fake eggs on social media and then duping unsuspecting members of the public, has been detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State.

The suspect was claimed to have taken money from his internet customer despite the fact that he had no eggs to offer, according to the agency.

The suspect was detained on January 26, 2022, at Zone VI, Apete area, Owode-Ede, Osun state, according to the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Emmanuel Ocheja, in a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Adigun Daniel, on Thursday, January 27.

The suspect claimed to be a holder of a National Diploma Certificate from Auchi Polytechnic, according to the NSCDC.

He allegedly marketed egg on his Instagram page, claiming to own a farm called Choice Farms in Ogbogbo, Ijebu Ode, Ogun state.

The NSCDC said, “A 37-year-old man, Halima Ashifa, who resides at Sango Otta, Ogun state signified interest in the supply and established contact with the suspect. She eventually made a cash transfer of a total sum of N55,000 in two installments of N7500 and N47,500 for the eggs on 21 and 25 of January 2022 respectively.

“The money was deposited in a GTB account which the suspect claimed was the account belonging to his company secretary whereas the account number actually belongs to a Point of Sales (POS) operator at Owode-Ede.”

The NSCDC stated that the suspect did not have poultry or eggs, as he claimed on social media.

The suspect would be charged in court as soon as feasible, according to the NSCDC commander.
