Marissa Laimou, a 28-year-old Greek heiress also known as Lemos, tragically passed away in London, United Kingdom, after what her mother claims was a deadly reaction to an insect bite, following her dismissal from two hospitals.
Marissa, a breast cancer survivor, was found deceased in her bed on September 11 by her housekeeper. According to Greek media, she initially experienced dizziness, fever, itching, and other symptoms of infection after being bitten by an insect.
A physician who visited her at home prescribed paracetamol, but her health continued to decline. She subsequently visited a London hospital and consulted her oncologist, who organized an ambulance transfer to another medical facility.
Family members claim that at the second hospital, nurses, not doctors, assessed her and determined she did not require admission. She was sent home that evening with antibiotics and a diagnosis attributing her condition to an insect bite. The following day, she was discovered dead in her apartment.
Her mother, Bessy Laimou, told Greek media that toxic shock caused by the bite killed her daughter. “My daughter had survived cancer and died from an insect. She was a girl with so many gifts, all of England is crying, all her doctors too,” she said.
The hospital in question has reportedly admitted to a “serious mistake” and initiated an internal investigation. An autopsy is underway and expected to take approximately one week.
Friends described Marissa as a talented, humble individual with a deep passion for the arts. She had recently produced a performance of Romeo and Juliet in London and was developing a new theater project. Prior to establishing her company, Rainbow Wave, which brought international brands to London, she collaborated with renowned fashion designers Sonia Rykiel and John Galliano in Paris.
The Laimos family, a distinguished name in Greek shipping with a legacy tracing back to the early 20th century, is now grieving the loss of their daughter, a vibrant woman whose life bridged the realms of fashion, theater, and high society.
