35-Year-Old Rapist Detained Over Rape Of Five Minors

A 35-year-old chronic rapist named Wilson Sunday has been detained by members of the Adamawa State police command for allegedly raping five youngsters in the Bachure, Yola North Local Government Area, between the ages of eight and fourteen.

The suspect, who resides in Damilu in Yola North, is believed to have started committing the crime in January 2023 and continued after that, according to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Yahaya Nguroje.

Nguroje claimed that the 35-year-old had deceitful carnal knowledge of the victims and had enticed them into an unfinished building away from the watching eyes of the public in order to take advantage of them as they were travelling to or from school. The victim’s parents informed the Divisional Police Headquarters in Kofare about the event after noticing the suspect’s lack of remorse, according to a police official.

‘’Preliminary investigation so far reveals that the suspect is a father of two and now leaving alone after he separated from his wife. The investigation further reveals that the accused was once convicted of a similar offence. The Commissioner of Police CP Afolabi Babatola expressed worry over the unfortunate incident and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID to take over the investigation and ensure diligent prosecution,” Nguroje said.

Another 22-year-old Raphael Peter, a resident of Bulabuli in Michika Local Government, has been detained by the state’s police for raping an 18-year-old student, according to a related development.

Nguroje urged members of the public, in particular parents, to keep a close eye on their children in order to protect them from criminal elements who are prowling the streets looking for someone to take advantage of and to report any individuals with suspicious behaviour to the police. He also urged members of the general public, particularly parents, to support the command’s efforts to combat all types of gender-based violence (GBV), and he pledged to hold offenders accountable in accordance with the law.
