7yrs Old Girl On Vacation Dies After Statue Falls On Her In Hotel

The life of a seven-year-old Italian girl has been cut short after she was reportedly crushed to death when a 440lb marble statue fell on her at a German hotel.

The sad incident happened on Friday evening in Germany.

The little girl who was on vacation from Italy with her parents died after a stone statue fell on her at a hotel in Munich, German police said.

According to the Associated Press (AP), the girl was hit by the roughly 200-kilogram (440-pound) statue in the courtyard of the hotel on Friday evening, police said.

Lavinia Trematerra from Naples, south-western Italy, was playing in the hotel courtyard with a boy when the unfixed statue toppled on top of her from the pedestal it had been perched on for around 20 years.

The tragic accident took place in Munich, southwestern Germany, on Friday at around 7.30 pm. She was crushed by the statue in full view of her father, reports said. Three people in the hotel heard Lavinia’s screams, ran to her aid, and lifted the statue off her. Paramedics arrived on the scene in Munich’s Isarvorstadt district and tried to resuscitate the youngster while taking her to a local hospital.

But sadly, almost two hours later, Lavinia succumbed to her severe injuries.

Munich Police, who have launched an investigation, said the statue weighed around 200 kilograms (441 lbs) and was 1.4 meters (4ft 7in) high.

According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, the statue was positioned on a concrete slab measuring 40 by 40 centimeters (1.3ft by 1.3ft).

Just hours after the accident, her mother, lawyer Valentina Poggi, wrote on social media: ‘You are and will always be our angel. Rest in peace, love of our lives.’

Her father Michele Trematerra, also a lawyer, wrote: ‘Our life has changed.’

Police are investigating the incident and will probe claims that Lavinia may have climbed onto the statue before it fell on top of her.

‘On Friday, 26 August 2022, at around 7.30 pm, a child from Italy who was on vacation with her parents was in a courtyard of a Munich hotel,’ Munich police said.

According to Italy24News, the family was set to leave Germany that day and fly home to Naples from across the German-Austrian border in Vienna. The Italian news outlet called on those responsible to face the wrath of the law for Lavinia’s death.

It was not clear why the statue toppled over. Police said an investigation was ongoing. A police spokesperson on Sunday said: ‘According to the current status, we tend to rule out intentional action.’

This is so so sad.

Our condolences to the family. May Lavinia’s soul rest in peace, Amen.
