Speed Darlington Blames Tribalism For Loss To Portable In Boxing Match

Controversial musician Speed Darlington vented his fury on social media after losing against Portable in the much-anticipated celebrity boxing battle known as “Chaos In The Ring,” saying that his defeat was due to tribalism.

Shortly after the April 18, 2025 fight at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos, Speed Darlington expressed his annoyance on Instagram Live, accusing the judges and organizers of favoring Yoruba native Portable.

“Yoruba judges, Yoruba is everything, of course, Yoruba gang will win.

“Don’t pretend tribalism is not in Nigeria, of course he will win when Yoruba is the judge, everybody inside the ring is Yoruba, the stage we are fighting in is Yoruba, of course, he will be awarded the win,” Speed Darlington said during the live broadcast.

The celebrity match ended with Portable being declared the winner in the second round knock-out.

Recall in the aftermath of Portable’s victory, Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy, who has been at loggerheads with Speed Darlington, gifted him N20 million.

Portable disclosed this via his Instagram story on Saturday when he wrote, “20 million from @burnaboygram.

“If you wanna be like Odogwu, can you do like Odogwu? God bless your family.”

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
