Exodus 11:10-12:14 Psalm: 115(116):12-13;15-18 Matthew 12:1-8
May the blood of Jesus set us free!
When I see the blood, I will pass over you! The Passover is not just a feast; it’s the most exhilarating celebration for the people of Israel! It’s a powerful reminder of God’s miraculous intervention to rescue His people from the clutches of slavery and lead them into the promised land. This incredible act of deliverance is what sets them apart as a nation dedicated to worshiping God at Mount Sinai and embracing a covenantal relationship with Him.
Through the extraordinary leadership of Moses and Aaron, God orchestrated this momentous event that would forever transform their identity. The Passover isn’t merely a ritual; it’s a profound symbol of God’s mercy towards Israel, reminding them of their special calling and purpose. Following divine instructions, they embarked on a sacred journey marked by obedience and faith.
And here’s the thrilling part—the Passover serves as a precursor to a greater fulfillment: the coming of the Messiah! Jesus stepped onto the scene, teaching us the true essence of obeying God. He embodies the Passover lamb, sacrificed for all. When the Pharisees criticized His disciples for picking corn on the Sabbath, He boldly declared, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” It’s all about obedience! When we live out mercy, we discover true fulfillment, something that feels all too rare in our world today.
Sadly, we live in a time when wickedness seems rampant. Many feel they’re above the law while others struggle beneath its weight. Those in power often exploit their authority, leading to injustice and manipulation that can be found everywhere—both in the media and in our communities. Rather than fostering harmony through ecumenical prayers, we often witness religious divisiveness and violence in the name of worship.
Yet, the laws given to us by God are not just rules; they are a guide to His justice and mercy! They liberate us and inspire us to love, show mercy, and remain faithful. Ignoring His mercy can lead us to face His justice, a reminder of His perfect balance of grace and righteousness. As we call upon the Lord today, let’s seek His rescue from evil and open our hearts to the endless blessings He pours out upon us.
