MAY THE LAMB OF GOD INCREASE IN US

In today’s gospel passage, John offers further testimony regarding Jesus. It was John who identified Jesus, declaring, “Behold the Lamb of God.” From the outset, John acknowledged that he was not the Messiah; upon learning that Jesus was already performing baptisms, he expressed his joy. The final recorded words of John the Baptist are especially relevant as we commence the next 34 weeks of Ordinary Time, with a focus on the living Christ: “He must increase, while I must decrease.”

Imaginatively consider the process of being absorbed by Jesus, as His presence within us grows and our ego diminishes. This is the pathway to transformation into His likeness. Anyone deeply engaged with Jesus will naturally be attentive and spontaneous, particularly regarding the needs of others. Love remains our true calling.
