Tuesday Of The Holy Week

DO NOT WALK INTO DARKNESS REMAIN IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST

Isaiah 49:1-6
John 13:21-33, 36-38

We are in the holiest of weeks and today’s first reading, the prophet Isaiah describes the mission of the suffering servant of God. As the light of the nations, he will restore God’s love to humanity’s fallen state.

The Last Supper is the scene of today’s gospel. Jesus tells the disciples that one of them will betray him.  The betrayer is revealed as Jesus shares a morsel of bread dipped in wine with Judas. Simon Peter was nervous when he was asking that question.  “Lord, who is it?” 

In other words, “Is it I”?  “Am I the one that will betray my Lord?”  None could come to the forefront.  None stood out that night or the next day as glowing examples of who God calls them to be.  They were scared; they were unsure about their well-being; and they were certainly unsure what life would hold next. 

Perhaps we are like them, living in some sort of state of denial thinking that we are doing the right thing and that everything will turn out alright but we are we are going in the opposite direction. We might be asking why would Judas betray Jesus even when he had revealed his evil intention.

We might also ask ourselves why we do the things we do. Why do we regret some moments as if we want to turn back the hands of time?

Judas enters into darkness. He chose money over friendship. He preferred to be lost after receiving amazing grace.
We all have mistakes, we all have regrets. We are prone to evil ways and manipulations. There is little Judas Iscariot in us whenever we sin, we refuse God.

But that is not all, Jesus knew the hearts of all the disciples, he knew that they would flee when the time came and even at that he still welcomed them to the table in the upper room. Christ is the offering and the offerer who welcomes us daily in the Holy sacrifice of the Mass.

PRAYER

As we walk through the Holy Week may we continue to love and trust Jesus always. May he give us the grace to follow him more closely and may we never oppose or stand against our salvation. Amen.
